“JideNka” is an Igbo phrase that means “always be creative” or “always hold on to creativity”. This name is specially chosen to represent the constant creative state of the proposed AI model and its ability to collaborate with its human agent in the creative process as it affects the different genres of African Literature.
THE INSPIRATION
Having witnessed many developments in AI and creative writing in other continents of the world,
GMT Emezue was inspired to TEST the possibility of creating African poems using an existing AI
platform like Google’s Verse by Verse platform. Fortunately, she was able to create some sort of
poems, but unfortunately, these poems lack authentic African sensibilities (language and
diction, Images that reflect the flora, fauna, culture, cultural ideas, and cultural memes, etc
of Africa). This inspired the creation of Jidenka, which is an AI platform that will assist in
creating African poems and short stories. Since this project is still a work-in-progress, we
present it here to seek collaborations, partnerships and funding.
