African Studies Association’s 2018 Conference (ASA)

Prof G.M.T Emezue was a participant at the 2018 African Studies Association’s conference, where she made a presentation on the topic: “The Politics of Global Ranking and the fate of Knowledge Production in Africa: A Study of the Narratives of University Ranking, Researches and Publications in some selected Nigerian Universities.”

The 2018 ASA conference was held at the Marquis Marriott Hotel at Atlanta, Georgia. The Conference, which was held between 29th November to 2nd December had over 2,000 participants in attendance. Prof Emezue and eight other participants were invited to the conference as fellows under the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s programs (hereafter called CCNY). While the overall theme of the conference was “Energies: Power, Creativity and Afro-Futures,” the broad themes for the CCNY fellows’ panel were:

  1. Publishing in, for, and about Africa- The global politics of African knowledge production.
  2. Africa in the World: Envisioning Afro-futures in a time of globalization
